Gov. Christie Rejects Online Gambling Bill
The long wait for the decision of Governor Christie regarding to the online gambling bill has ended this Thursday. As Christie rejects the bill that would regulated online gambling in the state of New Jersey.
For the second time around, online gamers were disappointed by the bill’s prohibition. The idea of conservatives on federal level to keep online gambling prohibition intact has been preserve with Christie’s helped with the Thursday’s ruling.
In his veto message, he stated “In my view, the creation of a legal fiction deeming all wagers to have ‘originated’ in Atlantic City cannot overcome the clear and unambiguous language of the State Constitution.”
The Governor had been concerned with the legislation that it would have to undergo legal challenges on a federal level. Where federal law makes it illegal for financial groups to process transactions from online gambling, but does allow the players to bet online within their states. The New Jersey legislation guarantees the citizen gamblers is allowed to bet at some regulated online casinos.
On the other hand, several pro-gambling groups have been opposing the individual state regulations in online gambling. While Caesars, Entertainment Inc. would prefer that these regulation should be implemented on federal level.
With such vetoes bill, it has been set that New Jersey failed to be the first state to regulate big revenues in the industry. The next in line that will try to pass online gambling bills will be California, Iowa, and Florida. Wonder who will beat this internet gambling prohibition and be the first state to regulate gambling online.
The three states already proposed regulation of online poker and lawmakers are now debating for this issue.
A bit of revenue will be go out of the state as some NJ players will now continue to send money beyond the state to those online gambling sites which accepts them. Still, there are lots of casino sites that accepts US players, so nothing to worry about the gaming though a bit of safety should be taken consideration in choosing a site.
